UPDATE: The winner is…ButtonsMom2003!
Hello from the hot and humid farmlands of central Indiana!
Although the corn loves this weather, I am not a fan. Duncan Keith (my mastiff) and I are spending as much time as possible in front of the fan. I know that the heat comes every year, and yet, I detest it.
I’m asked often about where I write. I’m very lucky, I can create almost anywhere. I like a little background noise, and if it is too loud, then I play the Rolling Stones, Foo Fighters, and Adele through my headphones.
I do most of my writing in our living room on the sofa with Duncan Keith on the floor in front of me, blocking me in like a guard. I inherited the farm and this house from my grandparents who were writers. They did most of their writing by hand on yellow legal pads in this very room. I think it has good mojo.
My best dialogue is born while I’m on the mower. We have six acres to cut so I spend a great deal of time riding the orange monster. For people that have read Feel Me, the Thanksgiving scene was created while mowing. In my contemporary romance, Changes, Billie and Tye’s talk after visiting Zoe in the hospital was mapped out in my south yard. I was sobbing, and I think I ate a bug or two.
My husband and I spent the shutdown due to the pandemic cleaning out our downstairs guestroom and created my official office. I find that I edit better in that room. Perhaps, I feel more official working at my grandfather’s desk? I have written a vampire story there so we’ll see if I can create in the room.
“Drive”, my short story in the First Response anthology, was written in the living room, fine-tuned on the mower, and the final edits were done in the office. I’m mobile, and when one place doesn’t work, I move to another. I’ve been hard at work, and I promise there will be more stories and books coming very soon.
