Revisiting COWBOYS! (Contest)

Revisiting COWBOYS! (Contest)

UPDATE: The winner is…Terra Oenning!

I’ve been editing and publishing short story collections for over a decade. I started putting them together for Cleis Press but beginning with Conquests: An Anthology of Smoldering Viking Romance, which I published in 2015, I went the indie route. Yes, the title is a bit over the top, but the stories…! I loved the experience, so once a year, until 2021’s Cowboys, I organized a new anthology.

Why do I do it? It’s a lot of work. However, I love the challenge. I love developing the concept and sending it out into the world for authors to get excited about and submit. Then I get to read tons of hot stories. Many more great stories than I can fit into a single volume. I like the idea of introducing authors readers haven’t yet sampled or hosting well-known authors who love a challenge or a chance to write outside their genre.

If you look down the list of books in the right-hand column of this page, you’ll see that I’ve done several cowboy-themed anthologies. There’s no question readers love a cowboy. But I love a variety of settings—different countries, even different galaxies. Past, present, future. I challenge authors to think outside the box, and they always surprise me. If you’ve already read Cowboys, you know what I mean. And if you haven’t? It’s only $0.99!

For a chance to win a $5 Amazon gift card, let me know whether you’ve read this anthology and whether you’d like another cowboy-themed book in the future!

East of the Rift by January George – A family tragedy reunites a lonely rancher with his estranged wife

The Patience of Unanswered Prayer by Michal Scott – Kidnapped and destined to be another victim of Reconstruction-era violence, a feisty shop owner is rescued by a trail boss whose dark secret might save them both

Something to Talk About by Izzy Archer – When a grad student takes a job as a nanny to two motherless children on a cutting horse ranch, she catches the eye of her sexy boss

The Scoundrel by Natasha Moore – A lonely widow finds her strength when she indulges her attraction to a weathered cowboy on his last night in town

Solar Flare by Ava Cuvay – An interplanetary rancher recruits hired guns to help herd her livestock and falls into the arms of their sexy leader

Hunk of Burning Love by Delilah Devlin – A woman accidentally sets her kitchen on fire while trying to catch the eye of a Texas firefighter
