The Scoundrel by Natasha Moore

A lonely widow finds her strength when she indulges her attraction to a weathered cowboy on his last night in town

Snippet from “The Scoundrel”…

It’s another hot summer day but autumn’s just around the corner. I can hear him singing outside, strumming his guitar, crooning a tragic western love song. It fits my mood perfectly, not that he’s singing to me. He might as well be. Tonight will be the last time I’ll see Will Bennett. The last time I’ll hear the voice that sends erotic shivers up my spine.

No more admiring his broad shoulders and those dark eyes with the crinkles at the corners that always have a wink for me. My fingers itch to touch his skin, tanned from days, weeks, years working under the beating sun. But I never have.

I can see him through the window. His Stetson sits low over his wavy, salt and pepper hair. His leather boots are as well-worn as the jeans that cup his very nice ass. I can’t help noticing everything about him. How the ends of his hair brush the collar of his chambray shirt. How he rolls the sleeves up to the elbow and reveals his muscular forearms. So many nights I’ve dreamed of feeling those arms around me.

Yeah, I know he’s a scoundrel, a hopeless flirt. I’m old enough to know better, but somehow I fell for the whole package. A foolish widow more afraid of rejection than a life of never knowing his taste, his touch. Never knowing the pleasure of his hard body pressing into mine.

He’s only here for the summer. Why would I want to get involved with someone who’s not sticking around, regardless of the attraction that vibrates in the air between us? I thought I was saving myself from heartache but it couldn’t have been any worse than this bone-aching yearning.

  1. I have read books with older couples. As an older person I do enjoy reading them from time-to-time.

  2. The older I get myself, the more I appreciate characters who have been around the block a few times and who have some years left ahead as well, Natasha! Loved your story in the collection, and have a few more from your backlist on my ereader!
