Whet Your Appetite

Whet Your Appetite

I love military heroes, both real and fictional. I guess that’s not surprising, considering most of the men in my family served in the military during war time. My dad was a Marine, my husband served on a battleship in the Navy, and my son plans to join the military next year. All of my uncles and most of my brothers-in-law served in the Navy, and claim those years were among the best of their lives. A few say they wished they’d applied for officer’s training and become lifers.

Military heroes keep cropping up in my books, from my midshipmen turned cops in REV ME UP and REV ME TWICE to my Marine turned teacher in DESERT FEVER

When Delilah Devlin put out the call for submissions for HIGH OCTANE HEROES, it seemed natural for me to write a story about an Iraq War veteran. My hero has a hard time readjusting to civilian life, which is reflected in his arid relationships—until he meets the story heroine and finds relief from his demons when he falls in love for the first time.

I hope you enjoy HIGH OCTANE HEROES and my story “Natural Appetites”.

Thank you for your support and enthusiasm for the anthology!

 NATURAL APPETITES by Adele Dubois

 Excerpt:

Mickey glanced at the time on his dashboard, as he slid behind the wheel of his car. “Shit.” He’d missed his after-work drinks date with Madelaine. Again.

He checked his cell. No messages. His spoiled, over-sexed girlfriend warned if he was late one more time, she’d be done with him. With her looks, men offered to crawl through glass to sleep with her. She’d made it clear Mickey could be easily replaced. One stiff cock was as good as another, as far as she was concerned. It would take her all of about five minutes to finish sulking and find a new guy. Maybe two, in ten.

He called her anyway, but Madelaine refused to answer. Mickey swore. He’d miss the luscious mouth that drank him in, slow and steady, like velvet whiskey. And her ass. He’d surely miss that.

 His cell phone went dark.

Without a shadow of doubt, Mickey knew he’d just been dumped.

  1. Your story sounds great! My husband was an Army Ranger medic in the first Gulf War and suffers from PTSD. I soak up any stories about men like him. For me it tends to validate his struggles. Thanks for being a voice for these men and women who can’t always speak for themselves.

  2. Still haven’t managed to get this book but look forward to reading your story in it. I love military heroes (I was a military brat who married a military guy!)

    1. Hi Ilona,

  3. sounds interesting Adele. I was an Army wife, love reading how others cope and their HEA. Wish you and the ladies all the best

  4. Army brat here! Grew up moving every year–lived in a lot of states and spent 7 years total in Germany–my best years were there. Love stories about returning vets, especially if they get their HEA.

Thank you for guest blogging today–as soon as the discretionary funds roll in, High Octane Heroes is MINE! *Cue maniacal laughter*

    1. Hi Judy (a.k.a. “army brat”)!
