Pirates Can Be Heroes Too!

Pirates Can Be Heroes Too!

Hi All! Cynthia D’Alba here. I’m thrilled to welcome Sharon Cullen here with us today. When Sharon and I first talked about her guest blogging here, I asked her about her latest hero. When she said, “Pirate,” I was like…Hell, yeah! LOL I love me some pirates, don’t you? AND she’s bringing us a special price on her book BUT the $0.99 price is only good until June 1, so don’t miss it! So, without further ado, here’s Sharon!

First of all, a huge thank you to Cynthia for allowing me to invade the Smokin’ Hot Firemen blog. My hero isn’t a smokin’ hot fireman but he is a smokin’ hot sailor! In a way that’s the same, right? And the heroine, while not a fireman either, is a hard-headed pirate.

I’ve always sort of been obsessed by pirates. The thumb-their-nose-at-convention, go-where-they-want-to-go attitude—who doesn’t want that?

When I first decided to write about pirates I wanted something different than the norm so I decided to flip things upside down and make my pirate a woman. But the problem with a female pirate is that female pirates need to be strong. Not just physically, but mentally as well.  And female pirates don’t need alpha males to bail them out. Or at least they don’t think they do.

The burning question was, whom do I pair such a strong woman with? And how do I write a hero that respects her but won’t take crap off her?

Nicholas was the answer. He’s also a sailor, but he takes his particular talents and devotes them to the crown by sailing for His Royal Majesty’s Navy. After all, it’s the proper thing to do and if anything, Nicholas is proper. He does what’s right. Always.

Nicholas and I tussled a lot during the writing of his book. I was afraid he’d come off too…beta. I fought and fought with him until I wanted to pull my hair out. In the end I had to learn to just let him be Nicholas. Once I did that, he became much happier (so did I!) and he led the way. He showed me who he really was (And just a hint—he’s not all that proper. There’s a bit of the plundering pirate in him as well which totally excited both me and Lady Anne).

I’m quite pleased with both of them. And they’re quite pleased to have you read their story.

Nortorious Lady AnneAND, I’m so excited to announce that The Notorious Lady Anne, is now on sale for .99

For more info on Nicholas and Lady Anne, here’s their blurb:

Nicholas Addison, celebrated captain of the Blackwell Shipping Fleet, has agreed to take Mrs. Emmaline Sutherland aboard the Pride and ferry the raven-haired beauty across the Atlantic on what he imagines will be a routine trip. But when the ship is attacked by pirates, the seemingly innocent passenger is revealed to be none other than the infamous marauder Lady Anne, whose name strikes fear in the hearts of sailors everywhere—and whose seductive wiles commandeers Nicholas’s affections.

Lady Anne, a legend of the high seas, has spent the last eleven years plotting revenge against her father, the owner of Blackwell Shipping. She’s targeted the Pride in hopes of plundering its captain’s company secrets. But beneath her fierce courage and bitter determination, Anne has the delicate heart of a woman—a heart that cannot help falling for Nicholas. Now Anne must make a difficult choice: bring down Blackwell or surrender to love.
