Living With the Heat

Living With the Heat

Have you ever fantasized about living with a sexy fireman?

Pfft, of course you have.

When Rachel Firasek asked me to stop by and chat with you all, she suggested talking about my own spunky fireman. Yes, ladies and gents, I recently celebrated a nine-year wedding anniversary to my very own firey.

Is it all it’s cracked up to be? Well, I’ll give you an example of my life and let you decide.

A few weeks ago, when my children were at school, hubby and I both had an appointment for a skin-cancer check. It was on a day when he was on shift, so he had to leave the station in his uniform, come pick me up, and then go to the doctor’s surgery.

I’ve gotta admit, men in uniform kinda crank my chain. My husband in a uniform? Ten times better. He may not have the abs of steel he once did, but he works out numerous times a week, and damn can that man rock his station wear.

Total hottie.

So picture me with a constant smile on my face while waiting for the appointment.

On the way home he says, “I’ve got an extra twenty minutes before I have to be back at work.”

I look at him and raise a brow. His statement could mean anything from, “Let’s get fast food,” to “I might place a bet on a horse before I have to get back.”

Then he continues, “I think we’ve got time for a quickie.”

Sweet clarification.

Unfortunately, when it comes to things like this, I don’t have much of a poker face. After all of our time together, I still haven’t seen him in his turnout gear. He also gets dressed at work, so it’s rare that I even see him in station clothes. So for me, this is like getting a ticket to Disneyland.

I can’t wipe the grin from my face. “Ohh! Can we play a fireman game? You can pretend to rescue me. That would be hot. But you’d have to keep your gear on.”

He snickers. “Yeah, I can come unfurl my big hose and put your fire out.”

We’ve never done the whole role-playing thing and spend the rest of the car trip making fun of each other. When we get home, I race to the bedroom, the ever-eager wife. He follows a few minutes later, after taking off those big sexy boots.

As he walks up the hall, he makes fire engine noises. It wasn’t sexy in the slightest, but I was laughing so hard I snorted.

He strides toward me on the bed and puffs his chest out. “I’m here to rescue you, Miss.”

The rest, they say, is history.

I live in regional New South Wales, Australia with my two highly energetic sons and a husband I don’t deserve (in a good way).

I’ve been an avid romance reader for years, falling in love with fictional hero’s left, right and center. It wasn’t until early 2011 that I decided to add to my pastime of reading and reviewing and take my own writing seriously.

I joined the Australian Romance Writers Association.

The hunky men and sassy women who dominate my daydreams are now being put to paper, eagerly awaiting their moment in the limelight. Author Linkseden

Eden, thank you so much for being with us today! Your post had me giggling. I know you well enough to know that this probably was even better in person. 🙂 Eden’s sexy fireman story isn’t a part of our anthology, but as her editor, I must tell you all that it is hot! hot! hot! And she has another hot rock star book in the making. You won’t want to miss it!

And because I know she’ll be a good sport, I thought I’d ask everyone to come up with their own fireman-pick-up line. Eden’s was above, in case you missed it: “Yeah, I can come unfurl my big hose and put your fire out.”

Oh, and she’s in Australia, so it may take her a while to get back to us, so check back this evening and throughout the day to see what everyone came up with.

To make it interesting, I’ll even gift a copy of Sneaking a Peek to one random entry. GO!~~Rachel Firasek

  1. Ha ha!! I know what you mean. My hubby has never worn his turnouts for me, but once. And then he vacuumed. It was like porn for me.

I don’t know if this happens to you, but a friend and I were talking about being married to firemen, and the questions we get asked. 10 years ago it was, ” Oh you’re married to a fireman? Do you get to slide down his pole?” *snicker snicker*

Now, it’s “oh you’re married to a fireman? Does he cook? I hear most firefighters can cook really well.”

What a difference 10 years makes.

    Great post. I loved it!!

    1. Hey Laura!!

I think the common perception for people around me has been that all firemen are hot. O.o

I always want to invite them to my husbands work Christmas party just to set them straight.

  2. Great post Eden!! I giggled the whole through it. Also I have a copy of Sneaking a Peek so please don’t enter me. 🙂

  3. Loved reading this post! Thank you for making me laugh & smile. When couples have been together for awhile & have kids, I think it’s important to not fall into a rutt or the same old routine. To change things up, make it fun is the key to keeping a marriage.

    1. I agree Jessie. Things changed dramatically for us once our boys came along.

But we spend a lot of time together because of his shift work – which I love, and we grow and adapt. I hope we always will.

  4. I enjoyed that story…and yum, having your very own fireman sounds like so much fun. Thanks for sharing and I look forward to hearing more about the hunks and heroines floating in Eden’s imagination!

    1. Thanks ELF. I don’t know if having a fireman in general i a lot of fun, but my husband definitely is. We’ve grown so much alike that we pretty much know each smart ass comment that will come out of the others mouth. 🙂

  5. Sounds like a fun read!! Now to come up with a pick-up line… It’s s good thing you’re a firefighter – you’re so hot, you’re gonna set this place on FIRE!!

  6. Wow, these are great! 🙂 Eden, thank you for sharing and being so daring. You know I lurve ya, girl. 🙂 I thought I’d add one of my own. “Baby, I’ve seen a lot of hoses in my time, but yours is the only one built to wet me down.” Hmmm… Smarmy a little, lol.

    1. LMFAO!!

You so naughty. I love it.

I love pick up lines…well, when they are said to make someone laugh, not in a sleazy way.
Before my hubby was a fireman (he was a pastry chef at the time), his line was ‘I knew you’d be hot when you were older’.

      1. *snorts* That sounds like something you’d say he would say!!

If you all aren’t following Eden on Twitter or Facebook, you should. She gives us great one liners like this on a regular basis!

  7. My fire guys don’t look like that. I am the EMS part of a volunteer fire dept and they are great but no so “hot”. They do rock though. Oh well, a girl can dream…come put my fire out any day!

    1. I agree Linda. The vast majority aren’t hot.
I think it has a lot to do with the ultimate fantasy. To find a man that is hot and physically fit, as well as being strong, heroic and willing to put others before himself.

  8. I laughed too. That was a really cute/sweet post. A reminder to take the time to enjoy each other and have fun.

    1. Thanks Anne.
We spend a lot of time together. Some days we don’t get a chance to chat and relax until we are in bed, but other day we talk smack all day and are always playing.

Our relationship is very important to both of us, so we are always working on it.

  9. I’ve always wondered what it would be like to be married to a fireman. Now I know!! haha. Thanks for that peek into your life!

    1. No problem, Kris.

The downside, which my mother also learned because my father used to be a volunteer fireman, is that the smell of smoke doesn’t get out of their hair or skin for days. My hubby doesn’t see a lot of fires, but when he does, the smell isn’t the best.

  10. Great post. I love firemen. They are so sexy and they protect and save others.
My cheesy line is: “My it sure is hot in here Mr Fireman. I think I am on fire, can you get me wet.” or maybe “Nice Hose”
    This book sounds great.

  11. I loved your post!!! Made me want to be married to a fireman…but I’m happy with my ‘office manager’…he still makes me hot after all these years!!! The book looks like a great read…want to check it out!!!

    1. Thanks Ronnie.

My husband was a pastry chef when we first met and he was still just as hot…well back then he had the ease of youth to keep him with a six pack and sculpted arms.

  12. This is GREAT story! HAHAHAHA My BIL is a LT on a large fire department. I need to send your story to my SIL. She would HOWL with laughter!

    Thanks for coming by!

  13. Winner Announced!

Chris Bails is our pick for winning Eden’s book! Chris, would you please contact rfirasek at hotmail dot com to make arrangements for your winnings. 🙂 YAY!!!

  14. I loved this interview! But you already knew that, right Eden 😉 I’m still laughing at the “unfurl my hose” bit. You and Fiery are too cute. Please, don’t enter me in the contest. I’ve already read and loved Sneaking a Peek 🙂 Okay, I’ll go back to stalking you on FB now. XOXO

  15. Loved this! There’s nothing that turns me on more than a man who can make me laugh during sexytimes. Thanks so much for sharing a peek at your smokin’ hot fireman with us!
